Social Media Questionnaire:
I asked 3 different people these questions and got different answers for each question:
Question 1: How many hours are you spent on social media a day?
Question 2: Have you ever had a bad experience on social media?
Question 3: What percentage is positive to negative on Social media? (100%)
Question 4: Do you know know all of your friends on your social media sites?
Person 1:
- 4/6 hours per day
- Yes, got into argument with someone else, this led to getting into the police involved.
- 80% positive, 20% negative.
- Doesn't know everyone, but mainly knows everyone.
Person 2:
- Around 3 hours per day.
- Got into arguments and people aren't very nice.
- 10% positive, 90% negative.
- Manly knows everyone through mutual friends.
Person 3:
- 5 hours.
- Yes nasty girls, being stalked.
- 50% postive, 40% negative.
- Yes knows of everyone.
The first question got a similar response, the average amount of time spent on social media a day is around 4 hours, the first person mentioned they spend 4/6 hours on their social media during the day, however the next person said they only spend around 3 hours, this is nearly half the amount of the first person because however the third person said they use social media around 5 hours a day, so this balances it out. This is quite a lot of time to be on social media during the day but it all adds up, and at this age most teenagers have 3-4 social medias so they check each social media after eachother and lots of times during the day.
For the second question i asked if they have ever had a bad experience on social media everyone I interviewed said they have, the first person mentioned they have got into an argument with another girl and things got out of hand which meant the police getting involved. This seems to be a common thing that happens in social media because people seem to have arguments over a screen instead of in person, this could be a negative thing as more people express how they feel more over a computer than in person. The second person I interviewed said people wasn't very nice towards them so this is a negative thing because this is how cyberbullying happens, they also told me they got into arguments which shows this is one of the main negative things in the social media. The third person had an experience which meant she got lots of nasty comments on there statuses and photos but also stalked by another girl, this is a bad experience they had on social media. Overall most of the bad experiences do contain people getting into arguments.
The third question I asked was 'what is the percentage between positive and negatives out of 100%.' This gave a mixture of different opinions. The first person said they think its 80% positive and 20% negative, because they think people get to make new friends and chat to their old holiday friends from across the road, they've only ever experienced one bad thing on social media, so there opinion on social media is mainly positive. The second person I spoke to said they think its 10% negative and 90% negative. This shows that the opinions have changed massively. This person is on 3 different socials medias and doesn't think its very positive, this is because they think it is a big waste of time and they think its very bad for cyberbullying and can be very dangerous. However the little bit of positivity they have towards social media is the messaging and getting to talk to people. The third person I spoke to said its 50% positive 50% negative, this is because they have very mixed emotions on it, they like the idea that you can socialise and talk to people but also get entertained, however they also suggest how bad it is for cyberbullying and getting stalked.
The final question I asked was if they knew everyone on there friends list, the first person I asked said they knew the majority of people but haven't spoken to them all before on Facebook, however on different social medias like Instagram they have there account not in private so they can have anyone random follow them. The second person said how they have lots of friends and there mutual friends, this doesn't mean they know everyone but there friends do so it means they're not total strangers. The final person said how they know everyone on their friends list and have spoken to everyone at least once on their social media.
